Pedana Kalamkari Sarees

Kalamkari is a beautiful art done by Artisans of Andhrapradesh. Two regions are involved in in this art Srikalahasthi and Pedana from Machilipatnam. Srikalahasthi Kalamkari uses hand-drawn and hand painted motifs  with natural dyes, and Pedana uses wooden hand blocks. First designs are made on paper and blocks are crafted accordingly.  The process of hand block prints starts by washing the cotton fabric with buffalo milk which helps the dyes to fix then washed and dried in sun. The colours used in Kalamkari are Indigo, yellow, red and black which are prepared from Indigo, turmeric, tamarind seeds and iron by using alum results to Pedana kalamkari fabrics.
